In the beginning there was House...

"a music wholly or predominantly characterised by a succession of repetitive beats."

In 1989 UK society went through a change.  A cultural shift away from the arrogance and selfishness imposed by the Thatcherite government to a more caring and sharing way of life. At it's core was a new form of music; a music that the law writers later described as "wholly or predominantly characterised by a succession of repetitive beats." A sound, not produced through traditional musical instruments but created by individuals in bedroom studios using electronic equipment. Not employing live singers but rather sampling human vocals or interesting sounds, looping and manipulating them so they behaved like instruments. A music solely designed to make it's listeners dance and dance long and hard into the morning.

Weekender by Flowered Up - the definitive club culture video

This music took many aliases and variations, "Acid", "Rave", "Garage", "Hardcore", but mainly it was termed "House". A tribute to the way it made you feel part of a wider family. Where people wanted to know your name, where you were from... and how many you'd had. This music and the culture it created became a way of life for many. A way to escape the mundane, something to look forward to at the weekend and release the pressure of daily life.

SelectDJ is dedicated to House, or "Old Skool House" as it is now termed. There is no shame in admitting this is nostolga web site. Most visitors will look back on their teens and early twenties to probably some of the best moments of their life. We hope to revive those memories.
